1920's and 1930's
At the time of the great depression there was a lack of hygiene which allowed for the spread of disease. Disease was more common in the bigger states because there were more people. Another reason that disease spread quickly was because many people didn’t know the cause for most of the diseases and were unsure of what treatment to receive. For example, if someone were to start having cramps they would assume that they had polio when they would actually have yellow fever and would endure the suffering because there was no cure for polio at the time. When in actuality that wasn’t necessary and they could go and receive the vaccine for yellow fever and be cured. Due to this lack of knowledge many people died for reasons that could've been easily avoided.
