Maurice Hilleman
In 1963 there wasn't a cure for mumps one had to be created so Maurice Hilleman did just that. Along the way to creating this vaccine Dr. Hilleman combined the cure for three different diseases into one vaccine to create the MMR vaccine. Early one morning in March Maurice Hilleman was awoken by his young daughter crying from pain. He later found that the cause for her distress was because she was suffering from mumps. This was an opportunity for him to put his vaccine to use and after the medicine took its effect he realized that it was slowly getting rid of her illness. As a father and a scientist Dr. Hillman felt the need to find a way to not only to help his daughter but to help many like her. Shortly after this event Dr. Hilleman decided to get his vaccine made legal and official so that others would have access to it, in 1969 it was processed and able to be distributed.
